Port Albert

Leaving Rosedale we linked onto the Hyland Highway at Gormandale down through Yarram with still no sun to brighten the way!!  Still cold and rainy on our travels today but not deterring us.  Stopping to walk the main street at Yarram to view the historic buildings still in use with colourful frontages.
Still used as the Court House - look at the steeples!!

This hotel has been refurbished and now is a lovely coffee house

The Yarram Club Hotel is still in full use with function rooms, accommodation and full bar facilities

Free camp at Port Albert is right at the waters-edge down by the wharves and beside the boat ramp.  Strollling further to the end of the road found the best Fish and Chip shop and waterside fine dining where we had lunch with great service.  Once again, the town has signage telling of the history and interesting stories of local folk from this district.  Port Albert was Gippsland's first port and is home to Victoria's oldest continually licensed hotel.  The village was settled in 1841 when the steamship "Clonmel" ran aground at Corner Inlet.  The Gippsland Regional Maritime Museum located in the heritage  listed Bank of Victoria (built in 1861) houses an extensive collection of local seafaring history and has a cannon from the wreck of the "Clonmel".
