OFF TO EXPLORE THE SOUTHERN FORESTS

Yes, we have left the Indian Ocean and are now travelling towards Albany eventually but firstly we will take our time through the Southern Forest areas and explore the towns as we go along.

Look what I found at a rest stop we called into for a coffee this morning.
So many different tiny small blooms on the forest floor.  Just so exiciting to see more wildflowers.

Like little butterflies.

Our first night along the Vasse Hwy. in a little rest area all to ourselves.

Pemberton was our next stop and we took a tram ride through the local karri forest to the Warren River stopping along the way at The Cascades and walking along the river banks for a closer look.

Our tram taking us along the old track which once moved out the huge logs from the forest.
It was also originally built to go as far as Albany but cost too much so only went as far as Northcliffe
transporting passengers.

How amazing is this one karri tree branching into four trunks!!!

The end of our trip today - Warren River

Talking to the lady in the visitors information centre, Erin would you believe, she was telling us that the mill is about to close permanently next year and currently only operates four days  per week.

Loved these workers cottages throughout Pemberton.
We then travelled on to Northcliffe and spent the night at Sid's Camp only six klms. out of town.  Powered sites, toilets and showers as well as plenty of walking/bike trails throughout the property.  Very peaceful surroundings and plenty of folk take advantage of a cheaper camping ground.  Only $5 per person per night and $10 if you want power.
