AT THE MOST SOUTH WEST END OF WEST AUSTRALIA

OUR FAVOURITE SUPER MOON SHOTS FROM AUGUSTA
14th November 2016

Mouth of the Blackwood River

Flinders Bay looking south-east towards Albany

Arriving here in Augusta worked out to be the best place to see the Super Moon along the waters edge of Flinders Bay.

Taking a drive out towards Cape Leeuwin we stopped at the Augusta Boat Harbour which seems to be quite new and still under further development.  Watched as several Ford trucks were being unloaded of new lobster pots and floats onto a fishing vessel.

Whale Memorial

Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse is 115 years old and is the tallest lighthouse on the Australian mainland, situated on a spectacular peninsula overlooking the point where the Indian and Southern Oceans meet.

Plenty of outlying rocks and reefs for ships to flounder upon.

Three lighthouse keepers cottages still stand along with the out house/laundry and storerooms for kerosene, generators and tools.  Loved the individual audio tour telling all the history of Cape Leeuwin.

This old water wheel supplied the lighthouse cottages back in the time the lighthouse was operating without the power that is now working it, from a spring locally.

Hamelin Bay was next on our list to see today as tomorrow it is predicted the weather is closing in overnight and thunderstorm/rain and winds tomorrow.

Beautiful white sand along these shores but lots of sea weed also.

All that remains of the past jetty that loaded these old tall ships.
Apparently if a South Easterly wind was blowing then this jetty was used otherwise the jetty at Augusta was used.
