KALGOORLIE - BOULDER

This is the bronze statue of Paddy Hannan, the first man to discover gold in Kalgoorlie outside the Information Centre

WOW.  I just love the old turn of the century buildings throughout these towns.  We drove around and found the Super Pit lookout so spent time watching the tiny (huge) mine trucks driving up and down into the pit.
Look how tiny those huge trucks look down at the bottom of the pit.

Amazing stats.

In Boulder

This is the Boulder Municipal Town Hall
.When we visited the Kalgoorlie Information Centre which is in the Kalgoorlie Municipal Town Hall, we realised both town halls where built the same.  Magnificent.  We decided to book a tour of the Questa Casa - The only original brothel left and hear of the history of Hay Street.

The starting stalls

Um.... this was the tamest looking of the three rooms still in use.  Should have taken a shot of the submissive room!!??
After starting our Nullabor Links two holes here for golf, we then went up to the Hannans North Tourist Mine and walked around trying to imagine how it would be back in those days living in a tent or if one found enough gold to build a shanty with a solid roof over ones head after toiling in the mud all day?!

Yes, they had a special shed for Two Up to be played and still have a game out at the Bush Two Up Shed out of town every Sunday I think it is.

Same tiles in both Town Halls - BMC Boulder Municipal Council.  Boulder was the working man class as to Kalgoorlie was the business-man class. (Upper class)
The other tour we did do was to the Boulder Municipal Town Hall to see the famous curtain drop - only one other in the whole world.  Wow!  To learn that it was rolled up and left for many years before it was discovered is a miracle it has survived.  Now days it is cleaned by professionals from Sydney every two years to preserve it.

The curtain drop has a 3D look but it is only one drop.  So clever was Goatcher's paintings.

Farewell Kalgoorlie-Boulder, we must visit again as there are a heap more places I want to see here and in the surrounding area.
