HEADING ALONG THE GREAT EASTERN HIGHWAY

Leaving Perth behind we decided to travel as far as Merredin for the night.

Meckering was our first stop and what history here.

This is a portion of the pipe-line that water is taken from the Perth Hills out to Kalgoorlie that was damaged during the earthquake.
It closed the water, trains and power throughout this region.

One can see what damage was done to the rail-line.
Passing through Cunderdin this Ettamogah Pub stood out like!!!!  Not sure if it is open as there were no cars outside it????  Mind you, the whole place looked deserted for a Saturday afternoon.

After arriving at the 24 hour free camping site we took a stroll along the many tracks that abound around it.  WOW what history here.

Walking up to the Peak one can view the town and see the historic water catchment scheme and Railway Dam designed in 1898.

This is taken from the Peak where the water runs off and you can see the wall built all around it to catch and channel to the Railway Dam.

These slabs of rock were cut from the local area so this channel coming from the Peak down to the Railway  Dam

This is where the water runs into this Railway Dam with picnic tables and walkways throughout this area.

Fascinated by these Salmon Eucalyptus trees that shed the bark in ribbons.
