ONSLOW

As the main park right on the foreshore of Onslow,  was full we managed to get into the Discovery Park down the other end of Sunrise Beach.  Very friendly folk and it seems this was built for the mining workers but not many still reside here now it seems.

As we had driven approx. 480 klms we decided to leave the exploring of the town for Friday so set off early the next morning to drive through the town and found the Onslow War Memorial and other monuments in memorial of lives lost off trawler fishing boats in cyclones.

Also from this point is a 1017 metre coastal walk so we decided to meander along the boardwalk and enjoy the birdlife and see more interesting wildflowers along the way.  At the end of the walk is a lovely park and grassed with bbq, toilet and water right beside the Sunset Beach.

Hoping to get some local fresh fish and chips for lunch we were dissapointed so had to have a burger instead before calling into the Information Centre which is also The Goods Shed Museum.  Well, both Wayne and I were engrosed in reading up on the history of this area and were meandering through the goods shed with its locomotive of yester-year when I heard the door being closed!!!  After knocking and knocking some more, we realised we had been locked in the museum.
Talk about POETS day - Piss Off Early, Tomorrows Saturday.

Wayne called through the netting to a couple of ladies that had just driven up and asked them to see if the lady was still around from the Information Centre as she was the only one who was running the place.  Luckily she had not driven off so came back and let us out!!  Only 2pm in the afternoon.
