THE BOAB TREE

This tree fascinates me.  The 'boab' is a deciduous tree, found open sandy plains from the Logue River, between Broome and Derby to the Victoria River Basin in the Northern Territory.
This is my "something different in Derby" Hugging a Boab Tree

Main street here in Derby is lined with these trees.

Amazing this tree is still alive with all of the centre hollowed out?!

Boab Prison Tree is one of the most famous here in Derby.  The Prison Boab Tree was used as a rest point for police and escorted Aboriginal prisoners en-route to Derby, and also, its prior but less known connection with Aboriginal traditional religious belief.

The longest trough which was used early 1900's by drovers for the cattle before being shipped out at the Derby wharf.

Frosty Pool was built in the war years for the officers commissioned here.
