FAREWELL DARWIN

We Are Off On The Road Again.  (I will post our Darwin & surrounds at a later date)

After spending two months in and around Darwin area we headed south on the Stuart Hwy stopping over at the Pussy Cat Flats Park, Pine Creek for the first night before calling back into Edith Falls Camp Ground Nitmiluk NP where we enjoyed a delightful soak/swim in the plunge pool.  Very popular spot and were lucky to get in for the night.

Parked at the finishing line of the old racetrack that closed 2010.

Once in Katherine it was a right turn heading west on the Victoria Hwy where we used the free camps along the way for the next three nights.

Stopped at Victoria River for a break and photos.  We marvel at the escarpments with deep rich red rocks. Several folk are bicycling and painting their way along this highway and we have encountered them on several occasions.

The Victoria River

Timber Creek has a very interesting information board which tells one among other facts, of a large boar tree in the town and a "Gregory Tree" just off the highway further along the road the road which I thought might be worth a look at.  OH DEAR  3.5klms of heavy corrigated dusty road did not make Wayne a happy man!!!  (Still worth the look.)  Full of history of a gentleman that arrived up this Victoria River by sail boat in the 1880's who rode horses from up here as far east to the Gulf and as far south as Brisbane.  He set up camp here amongst the local aboriginals.

We Are About To Cross The Border into West Australia.  Yee Ha!
